Wine tasting notes

Bright red ruby in the glass with intense aromas of red fruits, spices and red flowers. The wine is vibrant, full and intense with a bright red fruit character. Warm, with a silky texture, it is well-balanced with a persistent finish.

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2014) - 16.5 pts

Tasted Sept 2015 - Deep cherry red. Aromas of black cherry and vanilla pod. Lovely dry, firm texture gives some seriousness to this otherwise joyfully fruity red. Lots of pleasure. Finishes with a sweet impression even though it is dry. GV (JH)

Matthew Jukes (2013)

.... Made from young Nerello Mascalese and Nero d’Avola vines, grown on the hills around Lake Arancio in Sambuca di Sicilia, this is the most impressive, modern Italian red of the summer. The grapes are allowed to dry a little, naturally, in the hot Sicilian sun, so that they concentrate their sugars. With a longer maceration on the skins to extract delicious, plush notes and only six months ageing in barrique, so there are no coarse oak notes, you have a genius wine. The mouth-coating black plum and root liquorice notes make this the definitive BBQ wine of our sputtering summer.

The Wine Gang (2012)

The initial impression is fabulous: deep, shimmering with black fruit and violet perfume. The palate is no slouch either, with an essential oil purity to the fruit, edged with chocolate. It has a certain sweetness and creamy length making it very easy to drink" - The Wine Gang, February 2013
