Wine tasting notes

As the name suggests, Mini Ediciones are highly limited parcels of wine which we regard as small gems. From lesser known varieties, these wines are wholly expressive of our Remolinos Vineyard and represent an opportunity to taste a variety rarely seen in a pure form. Petit Verdot plays a small yet important role in our Decero Amano. In 2006, in recognition of its unique potential from the coarse, low vigour soils of our Remolinos Vineyard, we selected a few exceptional barrels of wine to make a well deserved Decero Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot. The 2012 vintage is particularly rich in wild blueberry flavors, quince and the jasmine aromas which are characteristic of this wine. It shows great complexity and tannin structure for extensive ageing potential.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2012) - 92 pts

Aug 2015, Luis Gutierrez - Decero produce some of the best Petit Verdot in Argentina, and they are capable of convincing the skeptics with examples like the 2012 Remolinos Vineyard Mini Ediciones Petit Verdot that does not show the aggressiveness often associated with the grape. There is perfect ripeness here, no excess and no charred or toasted sensations either from the grape or the élevage (which is always pristine at this address). Polished tannins, very good balance and a sleek palate, the house signature is also applied to this finicky Bordeaux grape. 12,400 bottles produced.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2013) - 91+ pts

Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, black raspberry, bitter chocolate and licorice on the nose. Suave, smooth and ripe in the mouth, showing subtle peppery lift and inner-mouth energy to the sweet dark berry, floral and licorice flavors. Balanced from the start but possesses the stuffing and structure to evolve gracefully; this wine will rely as much on its harmonious ripe acidity as on its fine-grained tannins for longevity. Finishes subtly sweet and long. Very classy Petit Verdot from Argentina. -- Stephen Tanzer

Tasted Feb 2015 - Trophy winner. 100% Petit Verdot. RS 1.8 g/l. 16 months in French oak barrels. Very dark polished deep purplish crimson. Smells of fragrant tea leaves. Lovely texture and with some luscious fruit. Lively and yet opulent. Ripeness with freshness. Some violet aromas. Clean and vibrant.

James Suckling (2013) - 92 pts

A juicy and rich wine with dried berry, shaved chocolate and hints of tea. Full body, firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Some lemon rind undertones. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2012) - 89 pts

Floral aromas of violet and black fruits include an oak-driven scent of plastic. In the mouth, this PV is plump and widespread, maybe even a bit flabby. Flavors of salty, leafy, spicy berry and black cherry are dry, meaty and toasty on the finish, with subtle tannins.

Tim Atkin (2013) - 92 pts

The latest in an impressive run of Petit Verdots from Decero, this is densely coloured and very aromatic, with some but not too much of the variety’s firm tannins, leafy, savoury aromatics and dark, chunky plum and damson fruit. 2017-21
