Wine tasting notes

Light gold in colour with complex aromas of ripe stone fruit such as apricot and peach with notes of white flowers. On the palate, the fresh, citrus character is rounded out by the vanilla notes from the oak ageing and complemented by a nervy, mineral quality. The long finish is floral and fragrant.

Winery information

Cesconi

The key qualities which set Cesconi`s wines apart from the multitude of other examples of these varieties are their concentration, perfect level of extraction and precise balance. This is attributable to the work of the four Cesconi brothers who have transformed their family estate in the past decade. Whereas the family previously sold all their fruit to the co-op at Lavis, today they are making some of Italy

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2011) - 16.5 pts

40% Pinot Bianco, 30% Pinot Grigio, 30% Chardonnay. Grown on limestone at 350 m above sea level. 7,000 vines/ha. Pruning: guyot. Yield 45 hl/ha. Vinification: oak barrels and 3,000-litre oak casks. 10 months in oak. Bottle aged for one year. pH 3.48. TA 5 g/l, RS 1 g/l. Annual production 15,000-20,000 bottles. Organic. Reminds me of a Friulano-dominated blend in Friuli with its strong green streak and interesting assemblage. They report that the vintage is now two weeks earlier than it used to be – except for 2013. Big round fruit with creamy texture. No shortage of alcohol!

Vinification notes

The grapes were picked and fermented separately in large oak casks and French oak barriques. The wine aged in the same casks for eight months. After the final blend was assembled during the spring following the harvest, the wine was bottle-aged for a further six months.
