Wine tasting notes

Fine deep tawny colour, with complex nutty aromas combined with hints of honey and figs. On the palate, rich mature fruit flavours, beautifully mellowed and a luscious long finish.

Winery information

Graham's

Established in 1820, W & J Graham is one of the most famous names in the Port trade and has long been synonymous with the greatest Vintage Ports. The Symington family acquired the company from the Graham family in 1970, so today Graham?s remains a wholly family-owned firm. At the heart of Graham?s Port is the famous Quinta dos Malvedos in the upper reaches ofthe Douro Valley. The old winery was completely renovated in 2000 and is now equipped with three revolutionaryrobotic lagares that ?tread? the grapes. Alongside these are the ancient granite lagares where some of the harvest is still trodden by human foot. The neighbouring Quinta do Tua and Quinta das Lages in the Rio Torto valley are key veinyards for Graham?s, as are the privately family-owned Quintas of Vila Velha and Vale de Malhadas.

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (NV) - 16 pts

Tasted Dec 2013 - What handsome squat bottles Graham's tawnies come in... Very pale rose red. Light, rather muddy nose and then lots of brown sugar sweetness and lightness on the palate. Very fresh but not really that much impact.

Wine Spectator (NV) - 90 pts

Issue: Dec 15, 2010. This has a zesty, sweet floral aroma, with well-spiced flavors of apple tart, flan and cocoa powder. The plush, mouthfilling finish of cream, vanilla and raspberry is fresh and balanced. Drink now.  ?KM.

Wine Enthusiast (NV) - 91 pts

The wine is rich, ripe and fruity with good acidity as well as a bite of spirit and old-wood aging. It is well balanced, keeping the freshness of a 10-Year-Old while also showing good signs of its wood aging. Just what a 10-Year-Old should be. — R.V. (12/1/2014)

Vinification notes

Graham’s 10 Years Old is made from wines of the very highest quality which, following careful selection, are matured in seasoned oak casks of 534 litres until their peak of maturity is reached. These are among the most demanding and challenging styles of Port to produce requiring great skill and years of experience from the winemaker and blender. It is essential to strike the correct balance between the delicacy and elegance which results from prolonged cask ageing while retaining the fruit quality which lends this old Tawny its structure and longevity.
