Wine tasting notes

Golden yellow in the glass, with a complex and layered bouquet recalling notes of elderflower, pistachios and rose petals. Soft and elegant, the palate is concentrated, with a steely character, and a hint of herbs and passion fruit. It has considerable potential to age, due to the Riesling and Kerner, and will develop layers of honeyed, nutty complexity

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2013) - 92 pts

July 2016 - Monica Larner - Although it is hard to make out the varietal blend, the 2013 Manna is a terrific IGT wine that speaks volumes about the cool climate, mountainous north of Italy and its beautiful wines. It is a true Italian cuvée from the Dolomites (in a screw cap bottle). This white blend of Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Kerner and Gewürztraminer offers crisp aromas and a delineated approach in which stone fruit, wild sage, citrus and mineral nuances are beautifully presented. The integration of those layers is seamless and smooth. In the mouth, Manna shows noticeable richness and creaminess

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2012) - 90 pts

The 2012 Manna, Franz Haas's aromatic white blend, is soft, open and very nicely balanced. Sweet white flowers, quince, pear, mint and lychee are all laced together. Effortless and quite expressive, the 2012 is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. There is a lot to like in the Manna, a blend of 50% Riesling, 20% Chardonnay, 20% Traminer and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. -- Antonio Galloni

JancisRobinson.com (2007) - 17.5 pts

Tasted 26 Feb 2009 - Grass dominates, then basil, then apple, then mint leaf. Tropical melon, pineapple, stonefruit. Very diverse flavours - very good. (RH)

Wine Spectator (2014) - 88 pts

Web 2016 - Lip-smacking acidity frames this lithe white, which offers fragrant notes of orange blossom, pickled ginger, chive and pink grapefruit granita. Minerally finish. Riesling, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Kerner and Sauvignon Blanc. Drink now through 2019.

James Suckling (2014) - 93 pts

Wow. So much grapefruit and pineapple character to this white. Full and flavorful yet this remains lively and zesty. A joy to drink. A long-time favorite. Blend of chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, traminer and riesling. Screw cap.
