Wine tasting notes

The 2016 Villa Antinori offers a deep ruby red in color. The nose is intense and complex, characterized by notes of red fruit coupled with hints of leather, spice, and vanilla. The palate is full bodied and round with supple and velvety tannins together with much length and savor.

Food matching

Both sun-drenched and savoury, this wine can take on robust fare such as roast red meat and game, stews, substantial pastas, and most types of cheese. Malcolm Gluck and Mark Hix, in their book The Simple Art of Marrying Food and Wine, suggest pairing this with baked Vacherin or else Parmesan-fried courgette.

Expert reviews

James Suckling (2016) - 91 pts

Shows good intensity on the nose and no shortage of fruitiness in the form of glazed cherries. Dried herbs and some ash, too. Full-bodied and chewy with a streak of refreshing acidity and bright red fruit. Drink now.
