Wine tasting notes

A super-classic of Montalcino and Banfi. A wine able to match the elegance and solidity of its elder counterpart with a freshness and directness that make it one of the most versitile wines within Banfi’s offer. Very enjoyable when released, it is also suitable for a long aging. Intense, ruby red color. On the nose classic aromas of blackberry and raspberry, which are well integrated with notes of vanilla and tobacco. The structure is ample, very concentrated and harmonious, supported by a good acidity. The finish is persistent.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2016) - 88 pts

Feb 2018 - The 2016 Rosso di Montalcino delivers just the right level of intensity and fruity pizzazz. This informal Rosso sports a tonic ruby color with variety-driven tones of blueberry and wild raspberry. That fruit is especially energetic in this classic vintage.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2012) - 88 pts

Dec '14. By Ian d'Agata - Bright red. Aromas and flavors of red berries, violet and orange peel. Fresh and savory on the palate, with zippy, pure red berry and licorice flavors. Finishes moderately long and very clean. This uncomplicated Rosso should be excellent with hamburgers and simple barbecue fare.

JancisRobinson.com (2015) - 15 pts

Vibrant mid ruby. A simple nose of red fruit with a touch of talcum powder. Simple, supple and a little anonymous. Rustic, drying tannins. (WS)

Wine Spectator (2016) - 90 pts

This is all smooth edges, with cherry flavors and a note of licorice. The tannins are refined and the finish conjures up hints of leather and tobacco.

James Suckling (2016) - 90 pts

Lots of elderberry compote and redcurrant reduction, as well as freshly squeezed lemons. Medium body, medium tannins and a very fruity finish. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2014) - 87 pts

Aromas of underbrush, red berry, tilled soil and a whiff of menthol come together on this. The easygoing, vibrant palate offers black cherry, espresso and a hint of star anise alongside zesty acidity and polished tannins.
