Balance, structure and sophistication together with silky tannins and a marked acidity—all pointers to a long evolution.

Expert reviews

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2016) - 93 pts

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino A.D. 1441 lifts up with a beguiling mix of white smoke, leather and air-dried meats, before blossoming further to reveal balsamic-tinged black cherry. There are depths of texture to traverse through here, as this pushes and pulls at the palate with nervous acids, while also displaying ripe red and black berry fruits. Salty minerals lend a savory note, as fine tannins collect upon the senses. Inner violet tones and tart red currants linger, keeping you guessing at what a few years of cellaring may reveal. JancisRobinson.com (2016) - 17.5 pts

A selection of the best grapes from a vineyard at 290 m above sea level with a west-north-west exposure. Total skin maceration time of 30 days and aged in Slavonian oak casks of 15 and 20 hl for 36 months, followed by at least eight months in bottle. Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Similar to the straight Brunello but with more depth. Great depth of fruit on the palate too with succulent acidity and richly tannic on the finish. Embryonic. (WS)

James Suckling (2016) - 92 pts

This opens with dried lavender, nutmeg and sandalwood. Some dried-porcini and leather undertones. It’s medium-to full-bodied with juicy cherries, elegant floral notes and ultra fine tannins. Already open. Drink from 2022.
