Wine tasting notes

Brilliant deep ruby with a rich, spicy nose with floral and wild berry notes. Full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with a dense, tight knit structure, soft, ripe berry characters and a long, spicy finish.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2010) - 95 pts

Wine Advocate #208. Aug 2013. Reviewer : Monica Larner - The 2010 Chianti Classico Reserva Rancia is chiseled and focused. It offers a full spectrum of Sangiovese characteristics with balsamic herb and medicinal tones followed by crushed stone and delicate clove or nutmeg. Rancia is equally impressive in the mouth with firm structure and enduring fruit flavors. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2011) - 94 pts

Sept '14 - Antonio Galloni - A wine of incredible density, the 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia is virtually impenetrable, but dazzling just the same. Rose petal, mint, sage, rosemary, leather and smoke hit the palate in a voluptuous, racy Rancia. The 2011 should drink well earlier than many other recent vintages, but it should also age nicely. The fine, silky tannins are a bit uncharacteristic for a young Rancia. Over the last few years, the 2011 has really started to come together. It will be interesting to see where things go from here.

JancisRobinson.com (2010) - 17.5 pts

Tasted Feb 2014 - Mid ruby with orange tinges. Already a little evolved but with aeration becomes more complex. Compact and with a note of graphite. Great tension between acidity, fruit and fine persistent tannins. Wonderful. Ageworthy. (WS)

Wine Spectator (2010) - 91 pts

Issue: Oct 15, 2013. This long version is packed with sweet cherry, mulberry and spice flavors and backed by dense, muscular tannins. Begs for time and food. Best from 2015 through 2025

James Suckling (2009) - 92 pts

Subtle cherry and cocoa powder character. Medium body, with fine tannins and a delicious finish. Pretty density underneath. Drink now or hold.
