Wine tasting notes

The wine is garnet-red colored. Intense spicy and red fruity notes on the nose. One is immediately impressed by the wine’s power and strength. The marly and clayey soil lends the wine remarkable savouriness and persistence. The tertiary notes, of aromatic herbs blended with Spanish broom and fennel, are typical of the Chianti Classico zone. High acidity, due to the winery’s altitude, which ensures ageing potential. The fine but firm tannins make this wine the perfect pair with traditional Tuscan meat-based dishes, such as game.

Expert reviews

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2013) - 92 pts

Oct 2016 - The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Campitello is a very beautiful and expressive wine that will appeal to readers who appreciate the more traditional side of Chianti Classico. Sweet tobacco, sage, mint, dried cherry and crushed leaves give the 2013 its lifted aromatics while bright Sangiovese acidity adds the vibrancy. Aging in cask produces a style of Chianti Classico that emphasizes aromatics and savoriness, while fruit is more in the background. There is a purity and frankness to the Campitello that I find hugely appealing. -- Antonio Galloni

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 17+ pts

Tasted March 2016 - Radda in Chianti. Just mid ruby with orange tinges. Energetic Sangiovese nose with hints of iron. Vivid acidity and fresh raspberry fruit on the palate, with just a hint of oak. Polished tannins. Really fine and complex. (WS)

James Suckling (2013) - 95 pts

A gorgeous and genuine red with plum and wet earth. Medium to full body and soft and velvety tannins. Made from 45-year-old vines. Big cask aging for 26 months. Organic grapes. Superb. Real deal.

Wine Enthusiast (2012) - 94 pts

Fragrant and focused, this poised wine opens with alluring scents of violet, iris, wild berry, aromatic herb and a balsamic note. On the elegant palate, notes of anise and baking spice accent the juicy core of red cherry and crushed raspberry. It's impeccably balanced, with polished tannins and fresh acidity.
