Wine tasting notes

Light lemon yellow in colour, this wine has an open, aromatic nose. Scents of stoned fruit, fresh peaches and greengages dominate with a hint of tropical fruit. Excellent balance in the mouth between a rounded, fuller style of Sauvignon, given a touch of warm honey by the malolactic fermentation, and the freshness characteristic of this region. The finsh rounds off with a lovely citrus burst.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2013) - 93 pts

May 2016 - Monica Larner - Vie di Romans continues to be one of my favorite estates in Northeast Italy, and this wine is yet another reason why. The 2013 Friuli Isonzo Rive Alte Sauvignon Blanc Piere Sauvignon is true to the grape and beautifully fragrant at the same time. No oak is used. The bouquet is full of energy and offers vibrant tones of passion and exotic fruits, white rose and perfumed honey. The 2013 vintage feels especially focused and sharp. In the mouth, this beautiful Sauvignon is silky and smooth with a streamlined style and long persistence. This is a standout Sauvignon.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2015) - 91 pts

Luminous pale straw. Ripe nectarine and soft citrus fruits on the nose. Then juicy and firmly built, but smoother and richer than the 2015 Piere, with excellent intensity to the flavors of stone fruits and flowers. Finishes long and saline, with excellent grip.

JancisRobinson.com (2015) - 16.5 pts

Looks a high price for a Sauvignon Blanc! It's firm and dense with an edge of sweetness. There is certainly a whole lot more than in the average Sauvignon Blanc but it still looks quite expensive relative to a fine Pessac-Léognan, eg André Lurton!

Wine Spectator (2015) - 88 pts

A light, lithe white, with a racy streak of minerality and vibrant acidity framing subtle notes of melon rind, star fruit and grated ginger. Creamy finish. Drink now through 2020

James Suckling (2015) - 96 pts

This is really exotic with peaches, mangoes and grapefruits as well as a steely undertone. Full body, plenty of fruit and a powerful finish. One of the great whites of Italy. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2015) - 91 pts

Classic varietal aromas of tomato leaf, exotic fruit and citrus practically jump out of the glass. The bright palate doles out juicy peach, nectarine, grapefruit, celery and sage while a mineral vein lends energy.
