Wine tasting notes

At 6 years of age on release, the colour is just starting to show some development with yellow tints complimenting the green edges. Lifted almond bread and the floral notes heading to bees wax and toast. Lively lime juice, Bickford cordial characters and backed by a superb zesty acidity. The magic of Hunter Valley Semillon on display with texture, fruit weight and great length from a wine that sees no oak. The ILR Reserve Semillon is released from the best years and this is a beauty.

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 17 pts

Less developed than the Mt Pleasant Lovedale 2013, more lime and less toasty, plus a touch of honey. Still very youthful, super-crisp, tight and piercing but with a fine line of lemon and lime fruit and just the start of a that hazelnut complexity - Julia Harding MW

Decanter (2013) - 94 pts

Despite rain on Australia Day, 2013 began with some of the warmest daytime temperatures on record, and so the vintage got underway earlier than anticipated. Iridescent grassy-green hues veil the promise of pale gold tints to come. Yuzu, lemon, cool honey and lime rind scents mingle with flavours of white melon and the crunch of fresh green apple. The palate is gripped by the acid and a talc-like texture holding this Hunter Semillon’s inevitable grace back a while longer - Daniel Honan

James Halliday (2013) - 97 pts

Graveyard's sister is released when it is at least 5yo and, like Graveyard, isn't produced every year. This is a very youthful version, still on the path towards maturity, but all the better for that. It is pliable, has succulent lanolin and Meyer lemon flavours, the acidity perfect.
