Wine tasting notes

This wine is deep, black cherry in colour. Aromas of red berry fruit and hints of toffee from French oak ageing give way to a fruit-driven palate. Notes of concentrated cherry fruit and liquorice, lead to a juicy finish.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 90 pts

The just-bottled 2015 Pruno is a young, fruit-driven and straightforward blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon from young and older vines in their 63-hectare organically-farmed estate, located around the winery by the river Duero. 2015 was a very warm year and the wine is ripe without excess, juicy and tasty, with a minty and chocolate touch perhaps from the one year it spent in oak barrels. No less than 395,000 bottles and 2,015 magnums were produced in 2015, so this should be readily available, and as always represents a good value in Ribera del Duero.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2008) - 90 pts

Nov/Dec 10 by Josh Raynolds - Deep ruby. Expansive aromas of fresh red berries, Asian spice and minerals, with a subtle floral quality. Silky and seamless, with sweet raspberry and cherry flavors and an exotic floral pastille note adding complexity. Fine-grained tannins add shape on the finish and fade quickly into the sweet fruit. This is delicious right now.

Wine Spectator (2015) - 90 pts

Rich yet lively, this red delivers ripe flavors of boysenberry and black plum, backed by leafy and orange peel notes and a minerally, smoky finish. Ripe tannins are well-integrated and crisp. Fruity acidity keeps this fresh. Drink now through 2025

James Suckling (2015) - 92 pts

Very ripe, bright, black fruits and tar aromas pour from the glass. Big and juicy, but the tannins are stronger than the sweet stuff. Long, clean finish and a lot of potential.

Wine & Spirits (2014) - 91 pts

Tight. That’s the first thing that comes to mind when tasting this tense, fresh, vibrant Ribera. Initially, the flavors are ripe and unctuous, but the acidity drives them into retreat, so they finish shyly, letting the freshest voices be heard. This is young, strong and impetuous. It needs time in the cellar."
