Wine tasting notes

Deep purple in colour. On the nose, aromas of ripe strawberry, black cherry and blackberry are complemented by spicy notes of liquorice, coffee and chocolate. The palate marries power with elegance with firm but ripe tannins, excellent concentration of flavour and a balancing acidity, all culminating in a lingering finish.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 89 pts

Feb 2017 - Luis Gutierrez - The young and fruit-driven 2015 Flor de Vetus is pure Tinta de Toro from a warm and early harvest matured in 50/50 French and American oak barrels for nine months. It has a commercial, approachable profile, with notes of plums and sweet spices, and a juicy palate with good freshness. It calls for food.

JancisRobinson.com (2007) - 16.5 pts

Tasted June 2012 - 12 months in new French and US oak. Deep garnet, highly aromatic with lots of sweet fruit and spice - cloves, nutmeg - combined with dark fruit. Dense, smooth tannins, fresh and still youthful. Lithe but quite oaky. A slight bloody note and just starting to show a leathery side. (JH)

Wine Spectator (2015) - 88 pts

Fresh and focused, this red delivers bright black cherry, cranberry and red plum flavors, backed by licorice and loamy earth notes. Bright acidity and firm tannins give this an energetic structure. Drink now through 2023

James Suckling (2015) - 88 pts

The fruit on the nose is a little on the baked side, while the palate is full and fruity but slightly disjointed. Enjoyable but not outstanding. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2014) - 90 pts

This wine's ripe plum and berry aromas feature an oaky note of bacon. On the palate, it's choppy and aggressive with tannic bite. Dark fruit flavors are bolstered by oaky spice, tobacco and chocolate hints that persist long on the finish. A texbook Toro wine
