Wine tasting notes

Very concentrated, with intense mature red fruit aromas, hints of violets and "esteva" (a local Portuguese resinous bush). Great structure, full bodied, matured round tannins, with a long persistent finish.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2012) - 88 pts

eRobertParker.com #2138June 2014 - Mark Squires - The 2012 Tinto is a blend of a 25% each of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca with 15% Tinta Roriz, 15% of a variety of other grapes (like Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, etc., all sourced from young vines) and 20% old vines field blend (70+ years old). About 70% of the final blend was aged for 14 months in tank, with the rest aged in third and fourth use French barriques for 16 months. Fresh, clean and well balanced, this is a Tinto intended to be approachable young, yet last long enough to be interesting for awhile. It is quite pleasing at the moment, with rich, but controlled flavors, yet a lively feel and silky texture. There is not a lot of concentration, but there are some hints of complexity. This may not have much upside or last all that long at peak, but it should be immensely enjoyable as a wine to just drink rather than obsess over, at least for the next few years. Drink now-2021.

JancisRobinson.com (2008) - 16.5 pts

Tasted July 2010 - Earthy, fragrance, chocolate, black cherry, moderate tannins, ripe plum and some menthol character. Good youthful, fresh fruit and decent length. (RH)

Wine Spectator (2012) - 87 pts

Medium-bodied, with fresh-crushed plum and cherry flavors that feature forest floor accents. The juicy finish is refreshing and makes for an easygoing red.

Wine Enthusiast (2010) - 88 pts

This is the entry-level wine from Vallado, bright and fruity, with an attractive red-berry flavor and a solid, tannic core. As is typical with the 2010 vintage, it has some structure and should be aged for another year. — R.V. (12/1/2012)
