The 2016 Cotes du Rhone Blanc is, as usual, dominated by Viognier, which accounts for almost two-thirds of the blend. There’s 15% Roussanne, and the rest is smaller proportions of Marsanne, Clairette and Bourboulenc. Grenache Blanc accounts for only 2% to 3% of the blend. The wine is medium-bodied and plump, with floral, apricot aromas and decent roundness in the mouth, balanced by just enough citrus zest to provide a bit of an edge. Drink it in its youth.

Limpid straw-yellow. Fresh pear, orange and white flowers on the fragrant, incisive nose. Juicy and energetic in the mouth, offering focused citrus and orchard fruit and honeysuckle flavors and seamless texture. Closes on a minerally note, displaying very good clarity and spicy bite. (2016)16 pts

Tasted Oct 2017 - Viognier-dominant blend, 15% Marsanne, plus Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc and 2% Grenache Blanc. All from the south. Lovely peachy fragrance, fresh acidity, rounded mouthfeel and smooth texture. The freshness is especially impressive considering the Viognier dominance. (RH)

Oct 2017 - Ripe, with a rounded edge to the white ginger, yellow apple and white peach flavors that glide through a verbena-accented finish. Shows a little more weight than the typical white Côtes du Rhône, and still stays fresh. Drink now.

James Suckling (2015)87 pts

Peaches, poached pears and melon fruits with a creamy edge. This offers fleshy and ripe fruit-focused style in a drink now mode.

Wine Enthusiast (2015)90 pts

Pristine green apple, lemon and lime are gilded with honeycomb in this medium-to-full-bodied white. Expansive and weighty on the palate, it finises long on a twist of bitter lime pith. Drink now through 2020
