Wine tasting notes

A brilliant, exceptionally pale straw colour with youthful green tinges on release. The wine exhibits fine floral and citrus notes enhanced by an underlying flinty vibrancy. An elegant, seamless palate starts with flavours of green apple and grapefruit, followed by a crisp mid-palate with an underlying slate like character, and as finished with classic mouth-watering lemons and limes. The fine structure is testament to the care taken during the production.

Harewood Estate

The Great Southern district lies about 7 hours’ drive South of Perth in Western Australia. As wine regions go, they don’t come much more isolated than this! Bordered to the South by the Antarctic Ocean and to the West by the Southern Indian Ocean, this is a cool, green and wet region, perfect for producing cool climate wine styles. Expert Reviews

Wine Spectator (2012)88 pts

Light and appealing, with soft-edged pear and floral flavors, picking up a lanolin note as the dry finish lingers. Drink now through 2018.

Decanter (2013)91 pts

Aromatic lime blossom and kerosene nose. Ripe apple flavours over slatey minerals on the palate – fabulous energy and focus with great fruit intensity and length on the finish.

James Halliday (2012)94 pts

Bright, light straw-green; has the hallmark effortless balance of Porongurup riesling, so at ease with itself you can underestimate its capacity to unfurl its intense, complex, lime and mineral aromas and flavours over many years. From a single 40-year-old vineyard.

Wine Front (2013)93 pts

Green apple, lemon blossom, talc powder, mineral oil. Light bodied, lean but with a good amount of flavour, clean acidity, light powdery texural highlights and a smooth long finish.

Vinification Notes

Only the finest pristine free-run juice is used in the production of this wine, resulting in a palate of outstanding finesse, free from the harsh, phenolic characters and deeper colours associated with grape pressings. A long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by minimal fining and an early bottling, all aim at capturing the inherent delicacy of the regional characteristics of the variety.
