Wine tasting notes

Famille Hugel’s signature wine. This Riesling stands out for its finesse and frankness and is the ideal partner to fish and seafood thanks to its freshness and balance. Made exclusively from hand harvested grapes from predominantly clay and limestone vineyards, in a dozen of the most favored localities in and around Riquewihr, this wine is dry and elegant, it expresses itself best on the steepest slopes with the most complex minerality.

Oct 2015 - Stephan Reinhardt - The 2014 Riesling Classic is the Famille Hugel signature wine. It is a dry and frank Riesling ideal to fish and seafood. The new release shows intense fruit flavors on the lovely clear and aromatic nose. Very clear, pure, dry and fresh on the palate, with aromatic fruit flavors and a quite salty finish, this is a lovely, pure and straight Riesling to be enjoyed with thirst in the next three or five years.

Feb 2016 - Pale yellow-green. Nectarine, green apple and medicinal herbs on the nose. Juicy, spicy and energetic in the mouth, showing lovely lift and cut to the flavors of lime, apple and minerals. Finishes perfumed and long. With 7.9 g/l total acidity and only 3.7 g/l residual sugar, this Riesling is resolutely dry. In fact, it strikes me as especially spicy and lemony, almost tart; I?d forget about it for a year or two and then try a bottle to see how it?s coming along.-- Ian D'Agata (2013)16 pts

Tasted Apr '15 - Aniseed, fennel, lime juice – excellent concentration and varietal accuracy with a delicious floral character on the finish. Steely, pithy, rich and delicious – a great candidate for ageing. (RH)

Oct 2015 - A fresh, harmonious white, with a floral overtone and a crowd-pleasing mix of nectarine, chalky mineral, orange blossom and candied pink grapefruit zest. Drink now through 2020.

A wonderful riesling with focus and excitement. Sliced apple, spice and mineral. Full body, tangy acidity. Very long and intense. A standard-bearer. Drink or hold

This crisp, fresh wine is perfumed and fragrant, tasting of apples. It is light and already accessible, with a bright lemon-zest flavor, followed by a white fruit note and a delicious citrus character on the finish. — R.V. (12/31/2012)
