Wine tasting notes

This brooding beauty shows an ample bouquet of berries and violets that speak of the variety, and encompasses well integrated earthiness and spicy notes. It is a perfect example of the elegance, aromas and character of its unique soil: full, round, with silky tannins, good structure and a lingering finish.

Il Molino di Grace

American-born, London-based Frank Grace purchased the 19th-century windmill (molino), adjacent barn, villa (Villa di Castagnoli) and vineyards in 1995. Oct 2016 - Silky and open-knit, Il Molino di Grace's 2013 Chianti Classico is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Expressive aromatics and succulent, layered fruit add to the wine's considerable appeal. The intensity that is typical of the Molino di Grace wines is present, but also somewhat tempered by the personality of the vintage. -- Antonio Galloni (2014)17+ pts

Tasted Feb 2017 - Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Quite subdued nose with herbal hints. Wonderful crunchy tannins framing the fresh raspberry fruit on the palate. Great balance and length and yet light. Great interpretation of the vintage. Looks like the estate has entered a new, much more convincing phase. (WS)

Wine Spectator (2013)89 pts

A fluid, balanced red, with a vibrant structure driving the cherry, currant, tobacco and earth flavors. Dusty tannins line the finish. Drink now through 2019

James Suckling (2013)90 pts

Tangy and subtlety fruity with light walnut and orange peel undertones. Medium body, firm tannins. Drink now.

Aromas of moist forest floor, truffle, new leather, blue flower and a hint of plum come together in the glass. The fresh, enjoyable palate doles out juicy black cherry, licorice and a note of chopped mint while supple tannins and lively acidity give it an easy-drinking nature.

Chianti Classico Wine Panel Tasting Nov 2012 - Complex and very long on the nose, with damson fruit, sweet spice and an underlying earthiness. Medium weight palate with tight, fine tannins and excellent follow-through, finishing with ripe, rich fruit and wild herb notes.
