Wine tasting notes

Fairy floss, sherbert, pink grapefruit & mandarin. Rhubarb crumble, toffee apple. Persistent fizz with a fresh pear and tamarillo skin finish. Tastes like kisses.

Feb 2015 Reviewer : Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Pale salmon-pink colored, the 2014 Moscato offers an intensely grapy and honeysuckle-scented nose with notes of rosewater and honey-drizzled peaches. Light-bodied, fizzy and sweet in the mouth, it is a classic example that can't fail to win over lovers of this style.

Jul 15. By Josh Raynolds. Bright neon pink. Heady red berry liqueur, tangerine and floral scents are sharpened by a peppery element and a hint of spicecake. Juicy, gently sweet and expansive, offering intense raspberry and cherry compote flavors that are reined in by a hint of tangy acidity. Finishes smooth and broad, with resonating red fruit and floral notes and good cling. This delicious, ridiculously easy-to-drink wine clocks in at 5.5% alcohol, by the way. It would make a great pairing with spicy northern Indian food."

A cheerful mix of candied watermelon, strawberry and fresh raspberry notes. Spicy and round on the finish

This longtime favorite seems to have gotten sweeter over the years, and I think it's about reached its limit, as there's just enough acidity for a semblance of balance. Floral notes of roses and berries burst from the glass, while the flavors feature juicy summer berries and a hint of chocolate.

So immensely sweet that you could almost spread it like strawberry jam. Tastes like it, too.

Aussie moscato doesn’t come better than this. Bright fuchsia colour with a fine froth of foam; pristine muscat aromatics and intense fruit flavour, which persists and satisfies, and doesn’t rely on sugar. Ageing: Don’t wait

Ralph Kyte-Powell (2015)4.5 stars

Pretty pink and light-hearted, the succulent Innocent Bystander Moscato is only partially fermented to preserve gently foaming bubbles, grapey sweetness and zesty acidity at a very low alcohol level. Perfect with fresh fruit or light pastries, it is sourced from muscat-family grapes grown on the Murray River’s Victorian side. The best place to sip it is at Innocent Bystander’s welcoming Healesville Yarra Valley HQ, where it is on tap, but it is widely distributed in the bottle, and sometimes even cans. It is sheer fun to drink."

Vinification Notes

Night time harvest. Fruit was chilled, crushed and given 6 hours skin contact to extract a hint of pink from the Black Muscat. Fruit was then pressed to stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was long and cold, until full natural carbonation was achieved and the optimal balance between sugar and alcohol was reached. The wine was cold filtered and cold bottled at 0 ˚C to retain freshness and effervescence.
