Wine tasting notes

Aromas of black plum, cherry, rhubarb and hints of earth and loam. Flavors of red plum, raspberry and blood orange are underpinned by distinctive river stone minerality and savory umami character. Plush and richly textured with juicy, yet balanced acidity and integrated toasty barrel spice.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2010)87 pts

Wine Advocate #199 Feb 2012 - Antonio Galloni - The 2010 Chardonnay Monterey, from one of the lesser-known appellations in California, is a terrific value. It reveals gorgeous focus and length at this level, with persistent notes of lemon, spices and minerals that flow through to the finish. The wine was fermented in barrel, with full malolactic fermentation. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2014.

Light, bright gold. Spicy citrus fruits and chamomile on the delicately scented nose. Light-bodied, dry and nervy, offering juicy Meyer lemon and quince flavors that pick up a white pepper quality with air. Closes with good clarity and tangy cut, leaving a subtle leesy note behind. -- Stephen Tanzer

Feb 2017 - The lemon and blood orange flavors are smooth, supple and charming, ending with a kiss of butterscotch.

Wine Enthusiast (2014)86 pts

Oak smoke, vanilla and an underlying aroma of crisp apple show on the nose of this widely available wine, a reliable choice for all types of parties. Apple and pear lead into white peach on the palate, with a strong oaky seasoning.

Natalie McLean (2013)87 pts

A buttery, oaky Californian Chardonnay that has balancing acidity and some apple notes. Full-bodied and smooth. Pair with roasted chicken.

Vinification Notes

The fruit was harvested in the early morning hours to ensure the clusters arrived cold to the winery. Grapes werepressed immediately to tank, then allowed to settle 24 hours before being barreled down for barrel fermentation (97%) in 64% French oak (23% new). 100% of the blend underwent secondary malolactic fermentation in barrel using a house strain of ML culture. The wine was stirred every 3-4 weeks as it aged 4 ½ months on the lees.
