Wine tasting notes

Deep crimson with purple hues. A rich and intense aroma of ripe Satsuma plum, blueberries and hints of cola mingling with fine milk chocolate, cedar and sweet spice. Quite a mouthful of sweet, juicy fruit but balance wonderfully with briary and sweet spice. A full bodied wine showing great complexity with hints of cedar and smokey notes which, in combination, flows through to the lenghty and youthfully austere finish.

Winery Information

June 2015 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown: Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Shiraz Valley Floor has a slightly rubbery nose to begin giving way to a core of red cherries and black raspberries plus hints of dried herbs and black pepper. Medium to full-bodied, it offers a graceful expression with red fruit and spice flavors supported by soft tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long.

Bright purple. Highly aromatic scents of ripe plum, cassis, incense and licorice. Plush, smooth and seamless, with dark berry, currant and spicecake flavors complemented by sexy oak tones. Sweet and approachable but structured as well, finishing with fine-grained tannins that bode well for aging. -- Josh Raynolds

Wine Spectator (2012)88 pts

Tight and tangy, with lively acidity to balance the tobacco-infused blackberry and spice flavors, lingering on the full-bodied finish.

Wine Enthusiast (2012)89 pts

Concentrated, woody, full-bodied, cooked-strawberry-jam character. Heavy, with traditional Barossa shiraz character.

Part sourced from the late (Mar '15) Ron Schild's vineyard, but will continue with son Kevin growing the grapes. It is full-flavoured in good Barossa style, with restrained alcohol in that context; plum and blackberry provide the base, ripe tannins and subtle oak finish the package.

Barossa Shiraz from one of the valley’s most consistent producers. This release is ripe and heady without being over-the-top. It’s all tar, blackberry, Xmas cake and coffee-cream flavour though it remains bright and fresh through the finish. Smooth, rich, warming; all these things. Not a lot of nuance or complexity but mouth-filling, satisfying and well shaped.
