Louis Jadot

The story of Louis Jadot began in 1826 with the acquisition of one parcel of vines; the Beaune Premier Cru Clos de Ursules. It was not however until 1859 that the house was founded by Louis Henri Denis Jadot with the aim of building a business with a high reputation. He developed a négociant business, focusing on selling wines in Northern European markets. His descendants followed in his footsteps, acquiring more vineyards and growing the négociant business through the years. In 1954 André Gagey joined the house as deputy to Louis Auguste Jadot, but when he tragically died in 1962, it left the house without any heirs and Gagey was entrusted by Louis Auguste's widow with running the business. In 1985 Louis Jadot was sold to its long-term American importer Kobrand. André Gagey's son Pierre-Henry is the Director at Louis Jadot and his son Thibault is the Deputy General Manager, working alongside renowned Burgundy winemaker Jacques Lardière, who has worked for the house since 1970. Since 2010 winemaker Frédérick Barnier has worked with Jacques as Technical Director. The maison owns 125 hectares of its own domaine vineyards as well as its merchant activity, sourcing fruit from high-quality growers. The vineyards are spread throughout Burgundy, from Chablis in the north to Beaujolais in the south, many of them Premier and Grand Cru sites. Jadot take a minimal intervention approach in the cellar, balancing tradition with modern technology. They use native yeasts for fermentation where possible, employ long macerations and use oak judiciously, aiming to preserve the character of the fruit in their wines with restrained use of new oak. On every bottle of Louis Jadot wine, you will see their famous and instantly recognisable emblem, the head of Bacchus within the decorative frieze border. This is a symbol of their identity and an assurance of quality and constancy. Louis Jadot's philosophy is based on one simple vision: “to maintain the grandeur of Burgundy for all time”. They are one of the most prestigious houses in Burgundy, producing a vast portfolio of superb wines, representing nearly every appellation, straddling entry level and fine wines with the same attention to detail – it's Burgundy and nothing but Burgundy all the way!
