Wine tasting notes

Distinctive aromas of ripe plum and pepper spices, mouth-filling sweet red-berry flavours and gentle tannins characterize this wine. A touch of Viognier was co-fermented with the Shiraz for the aromatic lift it gives to the wine, which emphasises the berry fruit and spice aromas on the nose. The American oak barrels give a hint of vanilla spice and contribute to the smooth silky tannins.

MAN Family Wines

M?A?N Family Wines began in 2001 when three friends got together with the aim of making wine that they?d love to buy - quality wine with smart packaging, but at price they could afford.Next they needed a name that would unite their three families, but particularly appeal to their wives after they?d unsuccessfully convinced them that their winemaking venture was a sacrifice rather than a lot of fun. April 2017 - Neal Martin - The 2015 Skaapveld Shiraz was 50% matured in oak barrels for 12 months, the remainder used. It has a composed blackberry and cassis-scented bouquet with a subtle floral note that develops in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, nicely judged acidity and well-integrated oak that allows the dark berry fruit to show through. There is a hint of white pepper on the aftertaste, completing a well-made Syrah that should drink well for 3-4 years.

Direct, with a good blast of cherry compote flavors, lined with dried anise and backed by a dash of vanilla. Has just enough grip to stay honest.

From MAN Vintner, an easy-drinking plummy Shiraz with soft tannins and a splash of viognier lends lift to the mid-palate "MAN" Vintners is so named after Marie, Annette and Nicky, wives of the team who had to give up weekends in support of the new winery project. This easy-drinking Shiraz has plush tannins with plum and spice flavours. A splash of viognier lends a mid-palate lift. Smoky with toasty oak on this finish.

Vinification Notes

The Agter-Paarl region is known for its characteristic "winegum" character - a very pure "grapey" fruit expression. We co-ferment some batches with a small portion of Viognier grapes to lift the aromatics and soften the tannins. 20% of the wine matures in small oak barrels for that hint of vanilla spice on the nose and to give extra encouragement to silky tannins. All in all, we like to think we've made a really great wine - and it helps to know that so many other people think so too.
