The Marimar Estate is the creation of Marimar Torres, sister to Miguel of the Torres Wine Dynasty. The Estate's origins lie in the 1970's when Marimar moved to California to promote the family domaines. She ultimately ended up buying vineyards in Sonoma which now form her eponymous estate. Planted in 1986, the vineyard is unique in California because it is totally European in style. The Marimar Estate has two principal vineyards; the original Don Miguel Vineyard named after her grandfather Miguel Torres and the Do?a Margarita named after her mother. The Margarita vineyard was purchased later and is situated in the Sonoma Coast region, very close to the sea. The premium Mas Cavalls Pinot Noir is produced from this vineyard.Marimar has put huge efforts into clonal selection utilising a variety of Californian and Burgundian clones to bring out the characteristics she seeks for each blend. The estate is farmed organically (starting in 2003) and now bio-dynamically too. The family are serious but not zealous about their farming techniques with the focus on quality not ideology.
