Mas La Chevali̬re was established by Michel Laroche in 1995 near B̩ziers in the Languedoc, after ten years of searching for the right vineyards. Today G̩raud Blanc heads up the winemaking along with Gr̩gory Viennois who oversees the winemaking at all of the Laroche estates. Mas La Chevali̬re strives for aromatic freshness and pure varietal character in its wines.
The reds are ripe yet sinewy and the whites are perfumed yet rich and all the wines display an elegance that is not always found in the sunny southerly climate of the Languedoc. The conversion to screwcap took place at the same time as at Domaine Laroche in Chablis. Spread across three vineyards, the 45 hectares of vines have been planted or replanted with the varieties that are best suited to the parcel and micro-climate. Yields have been reduced and the conversion to organic farming is well underway, with the release this year of two new wines, an Organic Chardonnay and an Organic Syrah/Grenache.
