Masi Tupungato

Masi Tupungato is the Argentinian estate of the Boscaini family who owns Masi, the celebrated Valpolicella estate in the Veneto, whose origins date back to the end of the 18th century. In Argentina they are located in the Tupungato Valley, in the northern Uco Valley region of Mendoza, at the foot of the eponymous volcano. Mas Tupungato is an innovative and unique project; a fusion of the emblematic grape varieties of the Veneto with those of Argentina. In this way the red wines are crafted from a blend of Corvina, the exemplary grape of Valpolicella, and Malbec, the signature red variety of Argentina, and the white from a blend of Pinot Grigio, a typical grape from the Veneto, and Torrontés, the signature white variety of Argentina. The wine-making technique is also typically Venetian; they use the apassimento method, where the grapes are left to dry over the winter in lofts, and the resulting dehydration produces a greater concentration of colours, aromas and flavours in the finished wines. There are no barriques in sight in the maturation cellar, instead you will see traditional 600 litre Veronese “fusto”. Masi have acknowledged expertise in this ancient technique, practised by the Romans. These are highly original wines - this is Argentina with a Venetian soul!
