Wine tasting notes

The Mastroberardino family has rescued and relaunched the ancient Greco di Tufo vine, which was near extinction. Novaserra, made from rigorously selected grapes, has great organoleptic complexity. The label features details from a painting by De Rosa, which can be found on the ceiling of the winery’s cellar. Intense straw-yellow in color, this wine has prominent aromas of apricot, pear, peach, almond, apple fruit and enticing mineral notes. NovaSerra Greco di Tufo is noteworthy for its excellent acidity and smoothness, with a pleasant hint of bitter almond in the finish.

Aug 2017 - Monica Larner - This is a fresh and zesty white wine. The 2015 Greco di Tufo NovaSerra shows the light and fragrant side of the grape with citrus, Golden Delicious apple and poached pear. The bouquet is rich and nicely layered. This wine offers medium build in the mouth with zesty freshness at the end.

Pale yellow-green. Reticent aromas of lime and anise, plus a lightly raw, peppery nuance. Citrusy, crisp and cool in the mouth, offering good intensity to the flavors of grapefruit, lime and apple. Shows modest depth and decent length with a hint of Greco's typical tannic clout, but I think it's fair to say that Mastroberardino's entry-level whites are not exactly their strong suit. -- Ian D'Agata

This light-bodied white is fresh and minerally, with hints of Asian pear, apricot, fleur de sel and anise. Offers a subtle, creamy finish. Drink now through 2020

James Suckling (2016)91 pts

Dense and flavorful with sliced fennel, basil leaf and lemon character. Stone and mineral undertones. Full body, dry and layered. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2016)89 pts

Aromas of white stone fruit and spring flower lead the nose while the bright palate delivers green apple, Bartlett pear and citrus alongside a steely mineral note. It finishes clean and crisp.

Decanter (2016)91 pts

Quite fine: live and limber, but still deep and complex.
