Wine tasting notes

Mt. Brave’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon has a full and rich texture that mingles with the aromas of violets and flavors of raspberries, blueberries and a touch of vanilla. Combined with mountain tannins that are massaged into an approachable, mouth-filling crescendo, the finish culminates with notes of mountain shale.

Oct 2014 - Robert Parker - The star of the Mt Brave trio of new releases is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon. There are nearly 5,800 cases of this fairly priced Cabernet. Blueberry, licorice, beef blood, tobacco leaf and forest floor aromas soar from the glass of this ripe, full-bodied, opulent wine. A blend of 87.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5.5% Merlot and the rest tiny quantities of Cabernet Franc and Malbec, it was aged in 81% new French oak. The oak component is well-concealed behind the extravagant fruit. Drink it over the next 10-15 years

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous. Blueberry, blackberry, cloves, menthol, spices and licorice are all woven together in a Cabernet Sauvignon that is relatively soft and supple for a mountain wine. Sweet perfumed notes flesh out on a highly expressive finish laced with violets, jasmine and lavender. Dollops of Merlot and Cabernet Franc round out the blend. This is an absolutely beautiful bottle of wine. -- Antonio Galloni

Tasted June 2016 - Subtle, dusty sweet spice and earth aromatics roll into a big, juicy, dark-fruit palate. Lots of juicy, ripe berries – blueberry, blackberry, boysenberry – show up front at the start of the wine, which then tightens into a focused structural finish. Persistent tannins and balancing acidity. Curious how this wine will evolve as it has the structure but opens with such a punch of fruit that I am unsure how the two will marry over time. (ECB)

A muscular, tight-knit style, with firm, dense, well-proportioned notes of dark berry, crushed rock and graphite. Impressively lively acidity keeps the flavors jumping on the finish, ending with an earth-laced red berry core. Drink now through 2030

From high-elevation vineyards, this is a lean, dusty wine driven by dried herb, blueberry and savory tobacco, with a floral flirtation on the bouquet. Integrated tannins are still sizable and structured, the midpalate touched by a gamy, meaty suggestion akin to charcuterie.
