Dec 2016 - Luis Gutierrez - The 2012 Gran Corte is a traditional multi-grape blend of 45% Malbec, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 10% Petit Verdot and 8% Tannat from 25-year-old vines in Alto Agrelo. Like all the top tier wines, it fermented in a combination of concrete and stainless steel vats and new French oak barrels where the wine matured for some 18 months and produced as a barrel selection of each variety. It's quite classical, with a mixture of black fruit, sweet spices and a smoky touch, with good ripeness that provided some peachy notes, without any excess. The palate is full-bodied with polished, fine-grained tannins and the hand of a good winemaker. I'm looking forward to future vintages of this wine... 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2015.
