Expert Reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2000)91 pts

Wine Advocate # 143. Oct 2002. Reviewer : Robert Parker. Quinta do Vesuvio's saturated blue/purple color is more dense than many of its peers. Impressive in the mouth, with full body, sweet creme de cassis and blackberry liqueur intermixed with smoke, earth, and spice, this sensual effort possesses elegance allied to power and authority. Complex, fat, rich, and intense, it is an exceptionally stylish, graceful effort to enjoy between 2006-2020+. Drink 2006 - 2020.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2000)92 pts

Jan/Feb 03. By Stephen Tanzer. Saturated ruby-purple. Superripe, primal aromas of black raspberry, maple syrup and dark chocolate; very sweet but also highly aromatic. Lush, chewy, very sweet and rich, with outstanding depth of black fruit and spice flavor. Hugely rich and ripe but not over the top. Serious, ripe tannins are currently covered by baby fat, making this very broad, thick, slightly spirity wine deceptively approachable now.

Published : 23-Aug-2005. Excellent deep blackish crimson. Young, green vegetal notes (Baga-like). Big and bold and brazen and even a note of barley sugar. Very blythe blackberry juice. Rumbustious and utterly confident. Good on it. Like heavenly hunting port! When to drink : 2007 to 2015.

Wine Spectator (2000)94 pts

Issue: May 15, 2003. Lovely nose of plums, chocolate and berries, with hints of spices. Full-bodied, with superfirm tannins and a tight tannin structure. Long and refined. It builds on your palate. Best after 2012. 2,500 cases made. ?JS.

James Suckling (2000)95 pts

James Suckling/95pt. Wine Spectator Weekly, 30th May 2002. “Muscular, with loads of wet earth, berry and prune character and hints of cassis bush. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a powerful structure that builds on your palate. Very long. Masses of grip.”

Miscellaneous (2000)96 to 98 stars

Roy Hersh, 96-98 Pts. Words About Port, 6th June 2002. “The 2000 is a dark purplish-black with full opacity and ultra-ripe aromas of violets and blueberry preserves. Alluring sweet berry and jammy plum fruit that dominate the underlying ripe tannins…This is one powerful beast with the structure to take it to the finish line…Will this surpass the phenomenon that was Vesuvio 1994, only time will tell!”
