Winery Information

Quinta do Crasto

Situated on an outcrop of rock on the north bank of the river Douro, half-way between Regua and Pinhao, Quinta do Crasto is arguably the finest estate for the production of red wine in Portugal. There is great strength in depth throughout, from the Douro Red which regularly wins accolades for its exceptional value-for-money, up to the iconic single vineyard wines from century-old vines. Everything is hand harvested from vineyards owned by the Roquette family, many over 70yrs of age and plenty.. read more

Feb 2010 - Jay Miller - The purple-colored 2007 Quinta do Crasto Vintage Port reveals aromas of earth, mineral, espresso, Asian spices, and blackberry compote. On the palate it has excellent breadth, a plush texture, excellent depth, succulent flavors, and enough ripe tannin to evolve for 8-10 years. The wine’s balance suggests that it will still be in its prime at age 20, probably longer.

Better known for its table wines, Quinta do Crasto still retains an important Port program. This big, dry and smoky effort fully justifies that. It is firmly structured and tannic, with a strong black-pepper character that is balanced by the solid structure and concentration. Age over many years. — R.V. (2/1/2013)
