La Granja Nuestra Se̱ora de Remelluri is a historic property which once belonged to the Monastery of Tolo̱o. In 1596, the estate was providing wine to the town council in nearby Labastida, which is one of the earliest references to a bodega in Spain.
The current estate was founded in 1971 by Jaime Rodriguez Salis and Amaya Hernandorena, who pioneered the concept of a single estate vineyard in Rioja.
The estate is now in the talented hands of son and master Spanish winemaker of world renown, Telmo Rodriguez, who is continuing in his parents pioneering footsteps. Not afraid of challenging the status quo, Telmo believes in wines that speak volumes from the terroir from which they hail.
Covering 154 hectares, of which 105 are planted with vines, Bodegas Remelluri lies at the foot of the Sierra de Tolo̱o Mountains and it is this unusual land that gives the wines personality.
The poor, stony ground with layers of clay retains freshness and moisture allowing the fruit to ripen with subtlety and balance. The low yielding, high altitude, terraced vineyards produce highly concentrated, well balanced grapes with which to fashion the wines.
