Wine tasting notes

This is an appealing softly coloured rosé, with intense aromas of wild cherries and raspberries combined with an intriguing nuance of Mediterranean maquis [the local aromatic scrubland].

San Marzano

In 1962, 19 vine growers from San Marzano whose families had farmed the land for generations combined their efforts to establish 'Cantine San Marzano'. San Marzano is a small village in the centre of the Primitivo di Manduria DOC region in the Salento sub-region of Puglia, in the heel of Italy’s boot. Through the decades this cooperative has grown significantly, attracting over 1,200 vine growers. Using modern and technologically advanced vinification techniques they produce elegant wines.. read more

Vinification Notes

This unusual rosé is made from 100% Primitvo grapes grown on thin, clayey soils which have a good presence of rocks. The grapes were harvested during the first week of September. Skin contact maceration took place for several hours, followed by a partial drawing off the must. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks to preserve the aromatic fruitiness of the Primitvo variety, and further aged in stainless steel to retain the freshness.
