Wine tasting notes

‘A Battle in the Deep’ as two foes collide! The Squid’s Fist lands hard against the crude steel of the submersible, the force buckles, kinks and crushes it as an old rivalry comes to a head 750mL under the sea! Once again the TNT team find themselves submerged in high dramas. How will they survive both the wrath of the mighty cephalopod and the diabolical plans of the crazed engineer? Pungent bright berries, cherry compote and musky herbs on the nose, with sexy rose and incense qualities gaining strength with air. Broad and fleshy on entry, then turns nervier in the middle palate, showing dense cherry and floral flavors. Dusty tannins add grip and focus to the long, precise finish.

Some Young Punks

Some Young Punks epitomize the best of New Australia. The punks consist of Col McBryde (Guinness Book of World Record holder for most tattoos while holding multiple Ph.D's and voted Australia's Young Gun Winemaker of the Year), Jen Gardner (self confessed nerdy yeast expert) and thirdly Nic Bourke (Self proclaimed number one fan of Culture Club - google Nic Bourke and look at the pic in drag - and winemaker extraordinaire). Like most amongst the new breed of interesting, young winemakers in.. read more

Bright violet color. Smoke- and spice-accented red berry and dried cherry aromas display are lifted by a suave floral topnote. Nicely concentrated redcurrant, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors are complemented by a hint of succulent herbs and an exotic blood orange flourish. Finishes silky and long, with smooth tannins coming in late to add shape and grip. -- Josh Raynolds

Fleshy, offering wild blueberry and huckleberry flavors and plenty of firm black tea notes, with fresh loamy earth accents and a crisp edge. Floral details linger. Sangiovese and Shiraz. Drink now through 2026. –MW

Vinification Notes

Squiddalicious is sourced from John Hager’s vineyard in the Kalimna sub-region of the Barossa. For the first time the wine is predominantly Shiraz based. Both varieties were kept separate from harvest through bottling. Sharp and short ferments with 8 days on skins and pressed entirely to stainless for fermentation. The wine was aged in old oak for 8 months.
