Wine tasting notes

Louis Barruol notes - "We are very lucky to have several good vintages in a row in Condrieu. Because three of the last four vintages were great: 2008, 2010 and 2011. The fresh 2011 summer made a long ripening season, which is the ideal situation to make a good Condrieu. The viognier hates the sun which has the tendency to offer a heavy caricature of Condrieu. The real great Condrieu has to be made with nice golden bunches but shouldn't excess 13,5° in alcohol. The equation is difficult to solve in a hot year like 2003. But in 2011, the slow ripening allowed to harvest at the exact optimum. Then the ageing on the lies brings the volume and the depth. As we don't really know what the global warming will reserve in the future, let's appreciate immediately this Condrieu "In Antiquis", the real Condrieu.. It goes very well with truffles or a Roquefort soup. Mango, liquorish, violet, peach. The wine will be bottled in june 2012, after the malolactic fermentation, with a very soft filtration."

Louis Barruol is the 14th generation Barruol to make wine at Saint Cosme. The Ch. was built in the late 16th Century on the site of a former Roman villa, and the remains of a Roman wine cellar, carved into the stone of the hillside, still exist in the Ch.'s caves. There are 37 acres of vineyards and the vines average 60 years of age. March 2016 Jeb Dunnock - Saint Cosme's 2014 Condrieu is a classic, pretty, medium-bodied effort that offers lots of tangerine skin, flowers and hints of honey. It's already hard to resist, yet will drink nicely for 3-4 years.

Mar/Apr '16 by Josh Raynolds - Bright, green-tinged straw. Lively, mineral-tinged aromas of orange zest, pear skin and violet take on a pit fruit nuance with aeration. Palate-staining citrus and orchard fruit flavors show excellent depth but come off lithe thanks to juicy acidity. Gorgeous, with papaya, white peach, mango, persimmon and Cavaillon melon notes seamlessly stitched together, lined with light honeysuckle and jasmine accents and backed by a twinge of bitter citrus oil and well-buried minerality.
