Wine tasting notes

Ruby red colour with garnet-coloured reflexes. Clean, elegant, intense & complex bouquet, rich in ethereal scents of mature forest fruit and the spicy notes of tobacco, chocolate and leather. On the palate warm with soft tannins, very good structure, good persistency and considerable ageing capacity.

Winery Information

Pierluigi Talenti was one of those instrumental in creating a worldwide reputation for Brunello. His work with Il Poggione helped to make it one of the finest estates in Italy. In 1980 he purchased this property he had fallen in love with and dedicated it to vines (and olive trees, of course). May 2017 - Monica Larner - The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino offers delicate tones and crisp lines that set it apart. Dark fruit is followed by dried cherry, pressed flowers and mild spice. The wine shows very nice balance and impressive length. The finish is polished and bright with balanced acidity that makes a good contrast to the depth and power for which Brunello is known. The wine is aged in botte grande and tonneaux for 30 months.

Bright, full red-ruby. Nuanced, scented nose combines raspberry, blackcurrant, tobacco, and an intense flinty note. Suave, juicy and complex, with harmonious acidity giving shape and freshness to the plum and mocha flavors. This subtle midweight finishes with smooth tannins, very god balance and lingering perfume. A big success for Talenti. -- Ian D'Agata (2012)17+ pts

Tasted Jan 2017 - Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Very tightly wound nose with hints of oak. Full and concentrated maraschino cherry on the palate. Firm, concentrated and tannic, and with all the building blocks for long ageing. Great acidity too. Rich style. (WS)

The plum-fruit character with salted almonds here is fascinating. Full body, and this really grows on the palate, showing a powerful depth of fruit and wonderful length. Drink in 2020.

Mature black-skinned fruit, truffle, underbrush, tobacco and leather aromas lead the nose on this powerful wine. The chewy, full-bodied palate doles out layers of juicy wild cherry, black raspberry, cinnamon, licorice and nutmeg, all framed in ripe, velvety tannins. The succulent fruit richness seamlessly supports the hefty alcohol. Drink 2017–2022.

Vinification Notes

At least 30 months in casks of French oak & medium sized barrels of Slovenian oak.
