So in the mid-80s, with cuttings coming from Burgundy, among other places, about 5 acres of Chardonnay were planted at the bottom of the San Francesco hill, with a predominantly south-west exposure about 500 metres above sea level. Like Cabernet Sauvignon, the variety was not recognized by specific guidelines at that time. In 1989, the first vintage of Chardonnay was vinified and marketed. Overtly fruity and complex with layers of honeyed apple, hazelnuts and tropical fruit. Intense concentration does not cloy thanks to firm acidic grip. Vanilla and oak on a long finish. Mouth-filling and persistent.

Dec 2015 - Reviewer : Monica Larner - The oak-fermented 2013 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Chardonnay Vigna San Francesco Tenuta Regaleali offers a full bouquet with yellow rose, tropical fruit, lemon zest, apricot and toasted almond husk. This delightful Sicilian white is loaded with intensity and good fruit ripeness. The natural creaminess of the mouthfeel is offset by crisp acidity on the finish.

Bright straw-yellow color. White peach, lemon, grapefruit, fresh herbs and white flowers on the very pure, subtle nose. The palate offers lovely penetrating fresh citrus, banana and floral flavors, with a restrained sweetness; boasts sneaky concentration and a light touch. Finishes with noteworthy length, white flower perfume and vibrant acidity that accentuates its flavor definition and length. Very impressive, and by far the best chardonnay that Tasca has come up with in many years. A world-class chardonnay and capable of further improvement in bottle--a real rarity from Italy. -- Ian D'Agata

Brilliant intense straw. A little rich and creamy on the nose with exotic spice notes and hints of raw rhubarb. Citric melon fruit with a hint of rhubarb on the finish. Well made but perhaps the fruit wasn’t entirely ripe? (WS)

A beautiful chardonnay with yogurt, sliced-apple and light pie-crust aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, soft and fruity. Gorgeous fruit and richness. I like the clarity and precision to this. Drink now.
