Winery Information

Tasca d'Almerita

The island of Sicily is home to the Tasca d?Almerita family of estates: Regaleali, Capofaro, and Whitaker. The Regaleali estate is at the heart of the family?s wine production, and also serves as an escape from the bustle of the coastal capital of Palermo. Dec 2015 - Monica Larner - The 2012 Sicilia Cygnus Tenuta Regaleali is a blend of 60% Nero d'Avola and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon that is aged in 30% new oak (the rest is neutral) for 14 months. This super Sicilian blend is fascinating because it never looses sight of its Sicilian roots. In fact, I ironically taste more Nero d'Avola typicity (with aromas of black olive and wild dill) in this wine compared to the pure Nero d'Avola Lam?ri. The reason is because Tasca's Cabernet Sauvignon is so distinctively Mediterranean in personality. The Cygnus blend shows round and rich contours with dark fruit and tight structure to keep it firmly stitched together.

Good deep red-ruby. Ripe aromas of black cherry, minerals and sassafras are lifted by a violet topnote. Tactile, smooth and fresh, with a savory quality to the black fruit and cedar flavors. The suave finish features very good energy and sneaky persistence. I have never been a fan of this wine, but I'll admit this is a particularly successful version. -- Ian D'Agata

Web Only 2014 - Mint and eucalyptus notes accent this savory red, with lightly chewy tannins and fresh acidity framing the macerated plum and cassis fruit, complemented by tobacco and ground spice hints. Zesty finish. Drink now through 2021

Cygnus is a hearty blend of Nero d’Avola and Cabernet Sauvignon that opens with perfumed aromas of red rose and cinnamon potpourri followed by warm aromas of leather and spice. At the wine’s core are black fruit and chocolate flavors. — M.L. (4/1/2012)
