Wine tasting notes

For his golden wedding anniversary, or "nozze d’oro" in Italian, founder Count Giuseppe Tasca created an innovative blend of indigenous Inzolia and Sauvignon Tasca. The fresh and lovely profile of Nozze d'Oro was so well-received that he decided to continue its production. The blending percentages now vary but the dedication remains the same: "To my wife Franca, with immense love. Straw-yellow in color, Nozze d’Oro offers delicate aromas of apple, peach, melon, jasmine, and honey. On the palate, it is expressive and fruit-forward with good body and alluring flavors.

Tasca d'Almerita

The island of Sicily is home to the Tasca d?Almerita family of estates: Regaleali, Capofaro, and Whitaker. The Regaleali estate is at the heart of the family?s wine production, and also serves as an escape from the bustle of the coastal capital of Palermo. This is one of Sicily's most celebrated white wines. The 2014 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Nozze d’Oro Tenuta Regaleali represents a blend of 71% Inzolia and 29% Sauvignon Tasca (an estate clone of Sauvignon Blanc). Winemaking follows a very simple and time tested formula: It is made in stainless steel and ages on the lees for up to five months. The wine is streamlined and elegant with peach, honey, candied tangerine skin and dried herb.

Bright straw. Pineapple and licorice on the rather herbal nose, with a hint of bell pepper emerging upon aeration. Fruitier on the palate, offering flavors of fresh citrus fruits and apple but not quite the precision or grip of the better Nozze d’Oro vintages. And just a bit green on the moderately long back end. -- Ian D'Agata (2015)17 pts

Straw yellow. Tight, linear lemon fruit with hints of lemon. A little lift on the finish and complex. Could do with a little more time in the bottle. (WS)

Web Only 2014 - A balanced white, with bright acidity driving the finely meshed flavors of macerated plum, blanched almond, beeswax and lemon zest. Offers a lasting, leesy finish. Inzolia and Sauvignon. Drink now through 2019. 5,000 cases made. ?AN

A fruity and oily white with sliced cooked apple and pear. Full body, round and soft texture. Delicious sauvignon blanc, as always. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast,, (11/1/2008), 88 pts -"Nozze d’Oro (dedicated to the producer’s wife on their 50th wedding anniversary) offers fragrant, herbaceous qualities that recall cut grass, tomato leaf and exotic fruit (the blend is 80-20 Insolia and Sauvignon Blanc). The wine is aromatic and generous and boasts firm texture and a crisp close. Pair it with raw fish or Japanese dishes."- M.L.

Vinification Notes

Fermentation in stainless steel tanks lasted for fifteen days at 16-18ºC; malolactic fermentation was blocked. The wine was aged on lees for four to five months in stainless steel tanks before bottling, and six months in bottle before release.
