Wine tasting notes

Top-tier Gewürztraminer, so fragrant with roses, lychees and spice it can seem slightly sweet, although it isn't.

The 2013 Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre comes from predominately Keuper marl-limestone soils in Hunawihr (Muhlforst area) and Ribeauvillé (Trottacker) which give this age worthy wine a full and powerful style. Nobly clear and elegant on the deep and concentrated but super subtle nose where ripe bright fruit aromas with a dash of lemon juice are displayed. Round, piquant and very elegant on the palate, this is an intense, complex, lovely mineral and extremely well defined wine with a stimulating vibrancy and a nice tannin grip which, in combination with the minerality, gives not just tension and power but also a very long and salty Gewurztraminer with mandarin flavors and flowers in the very persistent aftertaste. This Cuvée is even more elegant than the Reserve and will go into the market most likely by end of 2019 since 2008 is on the shelves right now and will be followed by 2011 and 2012 first.

Notes of mandarin and rose petal are alluring on the nose, hovering above a peach compote core that also defines the the juicy palate. The purity of the peach note is sublime and uplifting, pervaded by freshness. Gentle sweetness makes this wine medium dry and boosts the fruit notes to perfection.

Vinification Notes

The predominately “Keuper” marl-limestone soils on which it is produced lend this rare wine a full and powerful style. The grapes are picked by hand as late as possible in order to achieve maximum ripeness which, in turn, gives optimum depth of flavor and complexity after gentle pressing in the pneumatic press. The juice runs into the cellar by gravity and clarifies naturally prior to fermentation and then fermented in stainless steel at controlled temperature for 2-4 weeks. This cuvée is vinified nearly to complete dryness, the beautiful balance is the result of highly concentrated fruit, due to a very low yield.
