Wine tasting notes

Complex orange peel, raisin and rose petal aromas give way to a warming, luscious palate with a rich texture and a hint of wood spice. This incredibly concentrated wine has a clean, fresh finish.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (NV) - 89 pts

Wine Advocate #189 Jun 2010 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown -The NV Rosewood Vineyards Muscat appears only slightly less complex than the Muscadelle. Possessing a very pale brown color with a glint of gold, this wine is quite grapey on the nose with notes of brandied sultanas and spice cake. In the mouth it?s very sweet and rich with relatively medium-high acid to balance. The finish is very long with flavors of spicy grape syrup. As with the Muscadelle, this is also an amazing value.

Mar 2016 - Bright amber-gold. Smoke- and spice-accented scents of orange, toffee and baked apple, with notes of caramel and honey in the background. Sweet and silky but penetrating on the palate, offering bitter orange pith and cinnamon pastry flavors that show surprising vivacity for their richness. Closes sweet, spicy and quite long, leaving orange liqueur and baking spice notes behind. -- Josh Raynolds

JancisRobinson.com (NV) - 16 pts

Tasted Sep 2015 - Lightly waxy nose, the merest hint of varnish, and then very firm with a greenish streak in the undoubted fruit. Sweet, fun, with a powdery finish. Very vibrant fruit – much more interesting than I was expecting! Long. Not that much acidity but good grip. A hint of grapefruit peel. In the blossom spectrum. Bravo! (JR)

Wine Spectator (NV) - 90 pts

June 2014 - This silky, sweet version is the color of dark tea, with banana notes around the core of caramel, chocolate and cherry, finishing with moderate intensity.

Wine Enthusiast (NV) - 90 pts

Like Chambers' entry-level Muscadelle, this Muscat offers an affordable introduction to the Rutherglen style of sticky. The Muscat is full and round, with relatively simple notes of spiced orange and crème caramel and a finish that is sweet but balanced. J.C. (3/1/2015)

James Halliday (NV) - 90 pts

Jan 2014 - Chambers? oldest muscats and tokays/topaques are the greatest in Rutherglen, and hence in the world, but are not commercially sold, although they are entered in the Canberra National Wine Show from time to time. This is a baby in swaddling clothes, that will reach adulthood 30 years hence if kept in oak for that time. It?s a classic young raisin muscat, relatively youthful in colour, with spicy Christmas cake and candied orange peel flavours, and a heady spirit.
