Wine tasting notes

Vibrant and tantalizing from the bright, golden appearance to the lingering, zesty finish. The nose is layered with aspects of citrus blossom, honeycomb and stone fruit which follow through onto the palate. Full bodied and elegant, the mouthfeel is rich and creamy with a refreshing acidity

Food matching

Serve chilled as an accompaniment to desserts such as tarte tatin and crème brûlée, or to cheeses such as Roquefort and Stilton. The combination of high residual sugar and alcohol levels allows the wine to age for at least 20 years.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015/2016) - 94 pts

Lucious tones of apricot, dried nectarine, honey and spiced orange syrup with subtle tones of cinnamon all beg for your attention on the nose of the 2016 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine. The wine is rich and dense on the palate, expanding and unfolding, showing layers of depth and breadth across the mid-palate. It's perfectly sweet with the precision and balance to counter the acidity, so you can continue to drink it throughout the night. The finish is long and thoughtful and continues to evolve on the palate, leaving a viscous layer, flopping back and forth between flavors of honey, orange marmalade and apricot paste. I see blue cheese or crème brûlée as a beautiful pairing for this wine. 2016 vintage A pale gold color, the 2015 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine has strong, precise aromas of golden raisins and orange marmalade. The palate shows great balance between sweetness, alcohol and acid and is sweet but not as overly sweet as many other sticky wines. Wow, this is delicate with generous floral tones and is really delicious. The grapes were harvested in different tries to select fresher berries earlier at the beginning of the harvest in order to maintain acidity levels in the wine, while other berries were harvested later in the season to increase sweetness. This wine captures the essence of Vin de Constance and was aged in a combination of 50% new French oak, Hungarian oak and French Acacia barrels. 2015 vintage

James Suckling (2015/2016) - 96 pts

Such an amazing nose to this with dried peaches and limes, flowers and hot stones. Full-bodied, very sweet and powerful with a soft, caressing texture and a tangy, bright finish. A wonderful combination of late-harvest fruit and energetic acidity. Drink or hold. 2016 vintage Mesmerizing aromas of peaches, apricots, cream and vanilla with undertones of crushed stones. Medium to full body with a growing intensity on the palate. Chewy and phenolic tension, which is ever so finely grained. Fantastic length and focus. A super sweet wine. Clearly the best of South Africa. Tight and concentrated. Drink or hold. 2015 vintage
