Wine tasting notes

Amber in colour, the nose displays intense marmalade, citrus peel and cumquat with a slightly spicy edge. The palate is lusciously rich and intense, with apricot and marmalade flavours lingering.

Food matching

Pair with rich foods, sweet or savoury. Chocolate truffles, patê, figs, sticky ribs, blue cheese & charcuterie. Serve chilled.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (NV) - 92 pts

Wine Advocate # 167. Oct 2006. Reviewer : Robert Parker. Much easier to figure out than the Last Straw is the medium amber-colored, rich, sweet non-vintage Pedro Ximenez. This dessert wine tastes like brown sugar/molasses syrup with notes of roasted hazel nuts, coffee, chocolate, and caramel. It should be enjoyed at the end of a meal over the next 3-4 years. Drink 2006 - 2010.

Wine Spectator (NV) - 90 pts

Issue: Nov 30, 2006. Lithe, smooth and creamy. Not as sweet as many Pedro Ximénez wines, but gracefully balanced to show walnut, cherry, orange marmalade and coffee flavors that linger on the open-textured finish. Drink now. ?HS.

James Halliday (NV) - 90 pts

James Halliday, winecompanion.com.au, 90pts (NV) -"Do not think of old Spanish pedro ximinez; this is golden brown and very easy to drink, the spirit clean, the balance good and the fruit (relatively) fresh. Cork. Drink 2011."
