Wine tasting notes
Clos Martinet is one of the best Priorat red wines, reflecting the slate soils typical of this D.O A blend of Grenache and Carignan, with a little Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, from the original Martinet vineyard, it takes a little coaxing before the very precise aromatic notes of pepper, slate and spice evolve into wild strawberry, white flower and blueberry. There is excellent detail on the palate too, with dark chocolate, salt, orange peel and wild strawberry, seriously fine tannins, fresh acids and a massively long finish.
Food matching
According to Malcolm Gluck and Mark Hix in their book The Simple Art of Marrying Food and Wine, a great match for this is venison escalope with chestnuts and chanterelles. Master Sommelier Vincent Gasnier goes for “full-on” food such as spit-roasted boar or lamb roasted with rosemary and garlic.
