The 2016 Premium Sauvignon Blanc is a selection of 17 sites on the estate. It is clean and fresh with touches of Granny Smith apples and kiwi fruit, none of that herbaceousness you sometimes find in Sauvignon Blanc. The palate is fresh and vibrant with green apple, white pepper and a slight sea spray influence (which is no surprise given its proximity to the sea). Very fine and great value.

Pale, bright straw-yellow. Reticent scents of fig, anise, yellow fruits and pepper, plus a spiciness that's obviously not from oak. Fat, supple peach and tropical fruit flavors are enlivened by a peppery quality that runs through the wine to its firm, persistent, dusty finish. Not especially complex or concentrated but a nice performance for the year. A bit dusty on the end. (2015)16 pts

100% Sauvignon Blanc for the first time. Bottled. 220-260 m elevation, 15-20 different plots. Much higher yields than the Reserve. Pretty stinky Sauvignon on the nose! And then a hint of sweetness and strong fermentation aromas. Tough end at the moment but all the ingredients are there. Pungent.

2014 bouquet of pear & green apple, a nettle nuance, this & the flavours showing the cool terroir, vibrantly fresh, staying long after the glass is empty.

Fourteen vineyards, all of them on this historic estate, make up the blend of Andre Van Rensburg's Sauvignon Blanc. Combined with 5% Semillon, it's a focused, grapefruit and gooseberry number with a waxy undertone.

Vinification Notes

Grapes from the selected vineyards were hand harvested at peak ripeness and transported to the Vergelegen cellar in wooden bins. Parcels were selected and these parcels could be individual rows or fractions of blocks. Everything was vinified separately. No chemical or enzymatic additions were made and we tried to depart from everything that was accepted as protocols over the previous 16 years. Musts and finished wines were kept in contact with their lees by stirring at least once daily.
