Food Matching

Chilean Chardonnays such as this are versatile food partners, offering both refreshing acidity and richness. Key ingredients to go for include chicken, fish and seafood, with crab an especially good match, because of its richness. This wine will also stand up to many cuisines so have fun experimenting. It works particularly well with Thai green curry or with barbecue sauce. It is a match made in heaven with spicy fish cakes. What to avoid, however, are heavy red meats, creamy sauces and anything smoked. You can also enjoy this wine on its own as an aperitif.

Wine tasting notes

The nose is intense with aromas of white fruits such as pineapple, white peach, and ripe mango as well as pleasing notes of pear over a back of white flowers. The smooth, medium-bodied palate offers refreshing acidity and a long and lingering fruity finish.

Expert Reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2010)87 pts # 199. Feb 2012. Reviewer : Jay Miller. The 2010 Chardonnay Classic Series saw 50% of the wine fermented in American oak and the rest in stainless steel after which all of the wine was aged for 6 months in French oak. Aromas of poached pear, apple, and baking spices set the stage for a medium-bodied, toasty wine with ample fruit and excellent varietal character. This moderately lengthy Chardonnay is a very good value meant for drinking over the next 1-2 years.Aurelio Montes has a well-earned reputation as one of Chile?s foremost vignerons. The Montes wines offer great value at the lower end of the spectrum and set the bar for what can be achieved in Chile at the higher end.

Wine Spectator (2013)88 pts

Nov 2014 - Firm and well-structured, with fresh-cut green apple and Bosc pear flavors. Salted almond and mineral notes show on the toasty finish. Drink now through 2017

Vinification Notes

This wine is fermented both in cask (60%) and in stainless steel (40%). Half of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation under strictly controlled conditions, to maintain fruity aromas and encourage complexity in the wine.
