Wine tasting notes

At release, the wine is a deep red with a vibrant purple hue. An aroma of rich blackcurrant, subtle star anise spice and a touch of eucalypt. French oak maturation is also evident with subtle aromas of tobacco leaf, cedar and chocolate. This is a wine of great intensity. It has distinctive blackcurrant and cassis fruit flavours. Subtle oak characters of cedar cigar box and spice are also evident. The tannins are fine and elegant – a hallmark of the varietal. The palate is well balanced, complex and fulfilling and lingers on the finish.

Wakefield Estate

Wakefield is a third generation family wine business and was founded in 1969 by Bill Taylor inspired by his love for the red wines of Bordeaux’s Medoc region. He was drawn to South Australia’s Clare Valley where his first 178 hectare vineyard was planted on the banks of the Wakefield River close to the village of Auburn. July 2015 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a classic blackcurrant nose with clove, pencil shavings and menthol highlights. Medium to full-bodied, the concentrated palate is very pure and is framed by nice, grainy tannin and just enough freshness. It finishes long.

Juicy, full-bodied, rich and delicious on the palate. This robust red wine at a great price offers tremendous value and bang for your buck. Attractive aromas of mint and blackberry on the nose. It finishes nicely with black plum, espresso and cloves. Black in hue with aromas to match. Dark fruit, tar and smoky oak. Pair with juicy hamburgers.
