Wine tasting notes

On release, the wine is a deep opaque red colour to the centre with ruby hues to the edges. There are lifted aromas of spice, plum, red berries and violets along with chocolate and subtle cigar-box characters from the oak maturation. The wine has a rich and mouth-filling palate with ripe dark berry fruit flavours, along with spice, chocolate and freshly roasted coffee characters. It is finely balanced with a linear acid line, grainy tannins, a warming finish and good persistence of flavour.

Wakefield Estate

Wakefield is a third generation family wine business and was founded in 1969 by Bill Taylor inspired by his love for the red wines of Bordeaux’s Medoc region. July 2015 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown - Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2013 Jaraman Shiraz opens to intense cassis, blackberry compote and licorice aromas infused with dark chocolate, espresso and loam aromas. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the balanced palate has nice freshness, firm, rounded tannins and a long finish.

Bright purple. Dark berries, licorice, mocha and black pepper on the fragrant nose. Supple and smooth in the mouth, offering fresh blueberry and blackberry fruit complicated by touches of coconut and vanilla. Smoothly blends depth and energy and finishes very long, displaying gentle sweetness and youthful, building tannins. -- Josh Raynolds

Thick and dense, with blackberry and licorice notes that are vibrant and juicy, adding accents of cedar and fresh mint on the finish. Drink now through 2030.

James Halliday (2015)95 pts

Deep crimson-purple; all the synergy hoped for by the winemaker has been achieved. This is as complex as it is full-bodied, with an inky black fruit bouquet, the palate filled to overflowing with black fruits, spice, licorice and dark chocolate all contributing. Has the X-factor, especially if it is given 10+ years in the bottle. Great value too.

Tastings.com 92pts and Gold Medal - "Violet color. Toasty aromas and flavors of butterscotch, toffee, and berry pie crust with a silky, vibrant, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, refreshing, medium-long spiced orange, pomegranate, and menthol and eucalyptus finish with chewy, crunchy tannins and moderate oak. A delicious, savory and herbal shiraz with lots of appeal."
