Tasted June '13 -This was admittedly the growing season from hell, with unprecedented rain resulting in particularly fragile fruit. Presumably this is why the fruit in this case is somewhat submerged by oak, a particularly spicy oak note possibly the result of the Hungarian component in the mix of oaks used. Serviceable rather than fine.

Robust in mouth feel, this offers subtlety in flavor and an appetizingly tangy texture. It seems to develop more with each sip. Look for light aromas of apple and fig, flavors that gain a touch of butter and almond, and medium body.

Wilfred Wong of - "The 2014 Wente Vineyards Morning Fog Chardonnay is a serious party in a bottle; great for casual get-togethers, this is a wine that everyone will enjoy. I would pair this one with Dungeness crab and a nearby bowl of drawn butter. Medium straw, light yellow color; apricot pit and ripe apples in the nose, very good quality, nice depth; medium bodied, nice crispiness in the palate; dry, pleasing acidity, very good balance; bright apple flavors, with an almost note of mineral; medium finish, pleasing aftertaste. Vinification Notes

50% of this wine was barrel fermented in neutral French, American, and Eastern European oak. The other 50% was fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the natural fruit flavors inherent in this Chardonnay. The barrel fermented portion was aged sur lie for 7 months. Batonnage, the art of stirring the barrels, was performed monthly. The stainless steel portion was aged on lees for 7 months.
